Independent filmmaker Ly Bolia will appear at the University of Central Arkansas Feb. 23-24 in conjunction with the Second Annual UCA Film Festival as part of the College of Fine Arts and Communication?s Visiting Artist Series.
Bolia will be screening some of his short films at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 23 in Stanley Russ Hall, Room 103. He will also be a guest judge at the film festival. The festival will be at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 24 in Stanley Russ Hall, Room 103.Bolia received his MFA in 1994 from New York University and is assistant professor of film/video at Georgia State University. He is a writer, director, and cinematographer. Bolia?s films have been screened on the Learning Channel, PBS, Comedy Central Network, National Geographic Channel, and at the Lincoln Center.
More than thirty film festivals have screened his work, including Atlanta, Santa Fe, Bronx, Sarasota, Chicago, and Sedona, where he has won numerous awards. His work has been reviewed in Variety Magazine, Hollywood Reporter, Village Voice, TV Guide, Box Office Magazine, Filmmaker Magazine, and Entertainment Today.
The Second Annual UCA Film Festival will screen the best UCA student work from the 2004 calendar year. Awards will be given in a variety of categories including best narrative, best music video and best documentary.
Other guest judges include Brenda Hawkes, President of the Hot Springs Documentary Film Institute; and Philip Martin, critic for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
