Il Trovatore to conclude Met season at UCA

IL TROVATORE TO CONCLUDE MET SEASON AT UCA

CONWAY — Verdi’s Il Trovatore will conclude the 2010-11 season of Captured Live from the Met @ UCA, sponsored by the University of Central Arkansas’s College of Fine Arts and Communication.

The opera will be aired in high definition at the Donald W. Reynolds Performance Hall at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 1. Running time is approximately two hours, 45 minutes.

Il Trovatore, a co-production of the Metropolitan Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago and the San Francisco Opera Association, will be the finale of 10 high definition transmissions in the series this season.

Libretto is by Salvadore Cammarano. It is sung in Italian with Met titles in English, German and Spanish. James Levine and Marco Armiliato conduct.

According to www.metoperafamily.org, David McVicar’s popular production returns with Patricia Racette, Sondra Radvanovsky, Dolora Zajick, Marcelo Álvarez, Dmitri Hvorostovsky and Željko Lucic.

Approximately 200 seats are available for each performance at UCA. Tickets are $15 for the public and $5 for students with valid I.D.

This is the fifth season of the Met’s series, which came to UCA in 2008. The transmissions are now shown in 1,500 theaters in 46 countries. According to a release from the Met, a record number of more than 2.4 million tickets were sold last season.
