UCA Homecoming 2011 kicks off today with a week packed with activities for students, faculty, staff and alumni to show their Bear pride.
Homecoming activities begin today at noon with the banner competition. The winner of the competition will be announced Friday at the “Great Bear Spirit” bonfire at 8:30 p.m. at “The Pit” behind the Physical Plant. The annual homecoming pep rally will be on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Farris Center. The Homecoming court will be announced during the pep rally and the Association of Future Alumni will sponsor a canned food drive. Students for the Propagation of Black Culture are sponsoring a step show in Ida Waldran at 7 p.m. on Friday night.
The UCA Homecoming Parade will return this year. Participants in the parade include the Homecoming court, the Residence and Housing Association and campus fraternities and sororities. The parade will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday and will start at the softball and soccer complex. The parade will continue down Donaghey and end at Buffalo Alumni Hall.
“We weren’t able to have the parade last year, and we are excited to bring it back this year,” Tommy Kennedy, parade coordinator and AFA member said.
In observance of the 100th anniversary of the UCA Alumni Association, the association is hosting the “Ultimate Dinner Show and Dance,” on Friday, Oct. 28 at Centennial Center at Centennial Valley Country Club. The evening will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a “Wine Your Way Through the Years” wine and cheese tasting, followed by an amazing feast of time-honored dining favorites. The “Ultimate Oldies Show” will include musical favorites “Branson style” followed by a night of dancing. Advance tickets are $30 per person. Tickets may also be purchased at door for $35.
UCA will face Southeastern Louisiana University at 6 p.m. at Estes Stadium.
