Hardin's eye surgery a success

President Lu Hardin underwent successful eye surgery on Tuesday morning in Memphis and was slated to be walking later in the afternoon.

Doctors at Bowld Hospital University of Memphis said the procedure went perfectly. Hardin was recently diagnosed with malignant melanoma of the right eye. The surgery was to insert a radioactive plaque to shrink the tumor.

He will be hospitalized for seven days, and then the plaque will be removed.

Mary Hardin, the president’s wife, said doctors have told the president that when he leaves the hospital in seven days, he will be able to resume normal activities including driving and playing golf. Mrs. Hardin also said the president plans to return to the office the day after leaving the hospital.
