The University of Central Arkansas has been awarded a grant of $29,383 from the U.S. Department of Education. The recent announcement was made through the office of Sen. Blanche Lincoln. The award covers the first year of a four-year grant which could potentially reach $202,335.
According to Dr. Rebecca Gatlin-Watts and Dr. Michael Rubach, program directors from the UCA College of Business Administration, “The grant will prepare students for the global business environment by promoting international trade, cross-cultural, and foreign-language skills through seminars, trilateral virtual teaming, student mobility and internships.
“It provides an opportunity for both graduate and undergraduate business students to enhance their awareness of customs, tariffs, ethics and corporate governance, especially with Mexico and Canada where a number of select students will be awarded stipends to study. The grant will also fund international trade seminars for students and members of the business community,” they continued.
A number of factors will be considered by the Department of Education to continue funding the grant after the first year including if Congress has appropriated sufficient funds under the program; if the Department determines that continuing the project would be in the best interest of the government; and if the recipient has made substantial progress toward meeting the objectives in the original application.
