Glover leads community deliberation at UCA

GLOVER-0322CONWAY – University of Central Arkansas’ Center for Community and Economic Development will hold a workshop to discuss the key strategies to understanding group concerns and using deliberation as a tool to connect with the community and other stakeholders. Malcolm Glover, an award-winning journalist, will speak at this workshop. The workshop will take place from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on November 14 at the Brewer-Hegeman Conference Center at the University of Central Arkansas. Glover is a certified conflict mediator, communication analyst, educator and humanitarian who has traveled the world helping people solve problems. For more than a decade, he has worked with governments, organizations and communities in over eight countries on four continents.

“Working with diverse groups and collaborating to achieve a common goal are an essential part of the community development process. Despite this importance, communities may still find it difficult to reach consensus on basic issues. Glover’s insights during this workshop will be valuable to anyone whose work involves group decision making,” said Amy Whitehead, director for the Center for Community and Economic Development.

Participants will learn how to become an effective moderator, facilitate discussions with diverse groups, and inspire civic action through creative forums that rally people to a cause. This session will be highly interactive and Glover will allow participants to engage in a mock group meeting to immediately apply the tips from the workshop.

Non-profit leaders, elected officials, community and economic developers, chamber officials, grassroots activists, educators and workshop facilitators are encouraged to attend. Register for this workshop at uca.edu/cced.

The Center for Community and Economic Development is a part of the University of Central Arkansas’ Outreach and Community Engagement Division. The Center helps to create stronger communities in Arkansas by managing the Community Development Institute and through its community engagement efforts.
