Donations collected to assist the family of Jaykwantay Girley reached nearly $5,000, one week after the student’s death.
Affectionately known as “JJ” to fellow classmates and students, Girley passed away on Wednesday, October 2. He was a full-time freshman student enrolled in the Hughes Residential College and living in Hughes Residential Hall. UCAPD and MEMS personnel located Girley in a residence hall bathroom Wednesday morning at about 8 a.m. A preliminary autopsy report indicated that Girley died from a ruptured cerebral aneyeurism.
Services for Girley are Thursday, October 10 at 12:30 pm at the True Holiness Saints Center in Conway.
UCA Residential Colleges created the JJ Girley Fund with donations going to the Girley family. As of Wednesday, October 9, the JJ Girley Fund had raised a little more than $4900 through direct donations and a pancake supper benefit held on Saturday, October 5 in Christian Cafeteria.
Donations can still be made by sending checks to the UCA Foundation with JJ Girley Fund on the notation line.
