Foley receives grant to study E. coli in poultry

Dr. Steven Foley, Department of Biology, recently received a $25,000 grant to conduct an evaluation of E. coli gene expression in the presence of chicken serum.

The purpose of the study is to understand the mechanism by which E. coli causes disease in poultry. ?By understanding poultry disease, we may be able to develop strategies to reduce disease in birds and potentially limit the spread of pathogens to humans,? Foley said.

The grant is being funded by the National Institutes of Health through the National Center for Research Resources, Biomedical Research Infrastructure Networks and University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
