The following grant awards have been presented to UCA faculty:Drs. Paul Hamilton, Steve Addison and Jacquie Rainey, Colleges of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and College of Health and Behavioral Sciences, recently received a $49,411 grant to be used for enhancement of the information technology network capacity.
The grant is being funded by the National Institutes of Health, National Center for Research Resources, Biomedical Research Infrastructure Networks and University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
According to the authors, computer network cabling will be upgraded in Lewis Science Center, Laney Hall and Doyne Health Sciences Center. A high-performance work station and associated audiovisual equipments will also be installed in Lewis Science Center, which will allow connectivity to the Access Grid over Internet-2.
The Access Grid studio will enable UCA?s biomedically-involved faculty and research students to engage in large-scale meetings and collaborative work sessions with other Access Grid studios located around the nation.
Also involved with this grant is UCA Information Technology staff member Brent Herring.
Linda Griffith and Belinda Robertson, Arkansas Center for Mathematics and Science Education, recently received a $7,000 grant for summer training at a professional development institute.
The grant is being funded by the U.S. Department of Education through the Arkansas Department of Education (Title 2A Improving Teacher Quality).
The grant will pay the registration fees for 100 participants to attend the 2006 Arkansas Math/Science Summer Professional Development Institute.
