Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Feb. 17 announced the reappointment of Dr. Terry Fiddler of Conway to the University of Central Arkansas Board of Trustees for a seven-year term.
A Conway native, Fiddler earned his undergraduate degree from UCA in 1970 and his DDS from the University of Tennessee School of Dentistry in 1973. He served the Conway community as a dentist for 43 years before retiring in 2016. Past service to his profession included as trustee to the American Dental Association’s 12th District and past president of the Arkansas State Dental Association.
“On behalf of the entire UCA family, I would like to congratulate Dr. Fiddler on his reappointment to the Board of Trustees,” UCA President Houston Davis said. “For the last seven years, he has been a dedicated board member whose perspective, engagement and expertise have been important to our community.
“I appreciate his commitment and look forward to his continued impact on our university.”
Fiddler has a long history of civic and educational leadership in the Conway community. At UCA alone, he served on the UCA Foundation Board, the Community Advisory Board of the Reynolds Performance Hall, and as Purple Circle co-founder, first president and past board member. He and his wife, Dr. Joyce Fiddler, former assistant professor in the College of Education, have been active at UCA their entire adult lives and both have been members of the President’s Society since 1980.
Outside of those UCA roles, Fiddler served as an organizer and charter member of the Youth Theatre of Central Arkansas, on the Conway School District Board of Education for 20 years, and on the CARTI Foundation Board. He is currently active in numerous organizations, including Kiwanis and the Arkansas Mission of Mercy, where he is executive director.
The university’s board of trustees consists of seven members, who are appointed by the governor and approved by the Arkansas Senate. Board members serve seven-year terms, with one member’s term expiring Jan. 15 of each year.
Fiddler’s new term will end in 2033.
