Dr. Rick Scott, Dean of the Honors College, became President the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC) at its national conference in Boston. An elected position, executive service to the national honors organization entails a four-year commitment from vice-president through immediate past president. Dean Scott chaired the NCHC annual conference that was held in Boston as part of his duties as president-elect in 2012. He will preside over NCHC until its 2013 Conference in New Orleans next November.
NCHC represents nearly 900 honors programs and colleges throughout North America, Europe and Asia. Dr. Scott said, “We have important tasks to complete in the next year; the two foremost are assembling a database of institutional characteristics of honors programs and colleges and composing a white paper that defines honors education in operational terms, tasks that complement one another. We can use this work to help guide our responses to the rapid growth of honors education overseas and the challenges and opportunities of online honors education, and help us frame prospects for articulation agreements between honors programs at two-year and four-year schools and ongoing discussions about voluntary certification of honors colleges.”
Dean Scott held an elected position on the NCHC Board of Directors from 2008-10 and was named a Fellow of the NCHC in 2011 for exemplary service to and scholarship about the national and regional honors community. He also served as Executive Secretary-Treasurer from 2008-11 of the Southern Regional Honors Council and has many years of consulting experience with honors programs around the country.
