DOCUMENTARY ON SYRIAN CONFLICT TO SCREEN OCT. 7

College of Fine Arts and Communication Media Office

CONWAY — Red Lines, a new documentary showing the Syrian civil war through the eyes of two activists, will screen at the University of Central Arkansas’s Stanley Russ Hall on Tuesday, Oct. 7.

The 7 p.m. screening, in room 103, is free and open to the public. A Q&A with one of the activists, Mouaz Moustafa, a UCA graduate born in Damascus, will follow.

Director Andrea Kalin will give a filmmaker talk at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 2 p.m. in Stanley Russ 108, also free and open to the public.

“”We’re really excited to have documentary filmmaker Andrea Kalin and the main star of Red Lines, Mouaz Moustafa, at UCA,” said Dr. Bruce Hutchinson, associate professor and director of graduate studies in UCA’s digital filmmaking program. “Given the terrible events in Syria, this is a timely and important event. It’s a great opportunity for both those interested in filmmaking and those interested in current events, especially in the Middle East.”

According to a press release, the film “provides cinematic boots on the ground” to view the unrest.

Moustafa, a 2008 international studies graduate of UCA, is executive director of the Syrian Emergency Task Force, a nonprofit Syrian-American advocacy group. He moved with his family to the United States when he was 12 and became a U.S. citizen as a teenager. He grew up in Hot Springs.

The screening and associated activities are part of the UCA College of Fine Arts and Communications’ Visiting Artist Series and co-sponsored by the Little Rock Film Festival.
