CONWAY—The University of Central Arkansas raised $30,755.80 from 736 donors during its inaugural UCA Day of Giving campaign on Thursday, March 19.
The goal was to raise $11,698 to honor each of the 11,698 students enrolled at UCA. The funds will support emergency student scholarships.
“We all appreciate the generous contributions, including many from alumni and friends,” said UCA President Tom Courtway. “The Day of Giving was a success, and we are especially pleased that many students contributed to the emergency scholarship fund to benefit their fellow students.”
Emergency student scholarships are one-time scholarships given to students who, without assistance, find themselves in unforeseen dire financial straits and cannot continue their education.
“We are grateful to our UCA Foundation board members, Lavon Morton, ‘72 and Gary Aday, ‘78 and the UCA Student Government executive board, who were challenge donors for the Day of Giving,” Shelley Mehl, vice president for Institutional Advancement, said.
The one-day, 24-hour event raised $18,770.80, unlocking the matching gifts from the challenge donors and ending the day with a grand total of $30,755.80.
“We are thrilled to exceed our goal. Throughout the day, we kept our donors updated through Facebook and Twitter. Those donors kept the message going through their own social media accounts,” said Haley Fowler, director of annual giving. “The best thing is alumni, faculty, staff, students and friends all contributed to our success.”
