COVID-19 UPDATE: SPRING BREAK 2021

Update regarding COVID-19 from President Houston Davis to students, faculty, and staff

Many of you may be aware of the conversations we have been having internally about how to best manage spring break in March. After many discussions and listening to feedback from numerous campus constituents, including health professionals, Student Government Association, Faculty Senate, and Staff Senate, we will maintain Spring Break 2021 as originally planned and outlined in the academic calendar, from Sunday, March 21 through Sunday, March 28.

We know the past seven months have been challenging for our entire campus community. Maintaining our original Spring Break dates will allow us to counteract some of the overload and fatigue many are experiencing this fall. Safeguarding the health of our campus community remains a top priority, and that includes ensuring we all get the mental health breaks we need to finish this academic year strong.

Upon our return from Spring Break, we will host voluntary COVID-19 testing events on campus. We have learned through our mitigation protocol that testing, tracing and managing positive cases helps control the spread of the virus, ensuring we can finish the academic year successfully. We will share more details about post-Spring Break testing in the coming months.

I am extremely proud of all that we have accomplished together this year, and I continue to be inspired daily by your ongoing commitment to your education, your health, and the health of our campus community. Thank you for all that you do.
