Tom Courtway of Conway has been named General Counsel and Director of Governmental Relations at the University of Central Arkansas. Courtway’s appointment will be effective August 28 according to UCA President Lu Hardin.Hardin said Courtway had served “very ably” as general counsel previously at UCA. “However this new position will expand Mr. Courtway’s duties in the area of governmental relations,” Hardin said. “The 2006 general election bond issue question and the issues facing the 2007 General Assembly led us to create the new and expanded position. Courtway’s legal ability and experience as a state representative make him perfect for this position.”
Courtway comes to UCA from Hendrix College where he has been serving as Vice President for Planning and Operations.
“I love Hendrix College, and my family has a rich history with Hendrix; however, I believe that the passage of the bond issue and 2007 legislative session will define the future for higher education in Arkansas,” Courtway said. “I enjoyed working with Dr. Cloyd and Hendrix to help get the Hendrix Village concept off the ground and the final plans for the improvements to Harkrider completed, but now I am ready to work with President Lu Hardin for the future of higher education in Arkansas.”
