UCA CONCERT CHOIR PERFORMANCE SET FOR NOV. 5

CONWAY — The University of Central Arkansas Concert Choir will perform Thursday, Nov. 5, in the Snow Fine Arts Recital Hall.
The 7:30 p.m. concert is free and open to the public.
The choir’s first performance of the fall is themed “The Masters of the Time”.
“The idea is to introduce the giants, in terms of composition, of each era,” said John Erwin, director of choral activities and conductor of the UCA Concert Choir.
The choir will perform four main pieces: “Sicut Cervus” by Palestrina for the Renaissance era, “Lobet Den Herrn” by Bach for the Baroque era, “Jauchzet Dem Herrn Alle Welt” by Felix Mendelssohn for the Romantic era and “The Wedding Cantata” by Daniel Pinkham for the 20th century.
“It’s important for the students so they learn about these music masters, but also for the audiences because they don’t ever have a chance to hear some of this music unless they come to a performance like this,” Erwin said.
Other pieces will include arrangements of the Shaker songs, “Media Vita” arranged by Michael McGlynn for the opening, and an old Hungarian dancing song, “Tambur”, by Lajos Bardos, as the closing.
The UCA Concert Choir is the most select large choir in the Department of Music. Members must audition, demonstrating an excellent voice quality, a very good sense of pitch and an ability to read music at sight.
