CONWAY —The University of Central Arkansas Concert Choir will be in concert March 1 and March 11 at 7:30 p.m.

The March 1 concert will be in the sanctuary of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Little Rock at 1000 North Mississippi Ave. The March 11 concert will be in the Snow Fine Arts Center Recital Hall on the UCA campus.

Erwin, associate professor and director of choral activities at UCA, will conduct both concerts, which will feature versions of “Durufle Requiem” and “The Sunrise Mass of Ola Gjeilo”.

“’Durufle Requiem’ is one of the most important 20th century works for choir and orchestra and is the work for which Maurice Durufle is most known,” Erwin said. “For me personally, it is one of the most beautiful and serene works of art I have had the pleasure of preparing.

“’The Sunrise Mass of Ola Gjeilo’ is a new work that has inspired our students to new heights. We truly hope these works will thrill and inspire our audiences as well.”

On March 1, the UCA Concert Choir will join with the Arkansas Chamber Singers and the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra. Admission is $15 for adults and $10 for students and senior citizens.

The March 11 concert will feature excerpts from the March 1 program and additional works featuring Dr. Lorraine Duso on oboe and Dr. Stephen Feldman on cello. Duso and Feldman are UCA faculty members.

The March 11 concert is free and open to the public.

The UCA Concert Choir is made up of 60 students from many majors across the campus, although the majority are music majors, Erwin said. It has developed a reputation of outstanding musical performances over the years. It is the only collegiate choir from Arkansas to ever be invited to sing at a national convention twice for the American Choral Directors Association and has been selected to perform for six regional ACDA conventions.
