CONWAY — The University of Central Arkansas Concert Choir will sing on Tuesday, April 19, in the Donald W. Reynolds Performance Hall on the UCA campus
The 7:30 p.m. concert is free and open to the public.
Director of Choral Activities John Erwin will direct the choir’s final performance at UCA this semester. This year’s concert choir consists of 54 singers.
The choir will perform a variety of repertoire including works by Brahms, Mozart, Palestrina, Arvo Part, among others. It will conclude with the spiritual “I Could’n Hear Nobody Pray” with soloist Cassandra Hernandez, alto section leader.
“This year’s choir has come a long way in perfecting some very challenging repertoire and for that I am extremely proud of my singers,” Erwin said. “Recreating great music with other musicians is a most demanding enterprise, but the rewards of success are profoundly uplifting for the singer and for the audience.”
The UCA Concert Choir was selected to sing for the American Choral Directors Association Southwest Division Convention in Dallas on March 1, with some of the program being repeated for the April concert at UCA. It has been selected to sing for the ACDA conventions a record eight times, the most for any college choir in Arkansas. Past performances have included two national conventions and six divisional conventions.
Erwin’s choirs have toured throughout the United States and Europe, where they won two gold medals in the Riva Del Garda International Competition in Italy. Among other accomplishments, his choirs have been named Grand National Prize Winner of the Great American Choral Festival.
