Computer Science receives funds to update hardware

Dr. Chenyi Hu and Dr. Ron Toll, both of the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, were recently awarded a grant from $15,642 from Sun Microsystems Inc.

The matching fund grant is being used to enhance the computing environment for the Department of Computer Science at UCA. With the grant, the department has purchased a Sun Fire280R server equipped with two 1.2 GHz UltraSPARK-III processors, 8 GB memory and two 73 GB, 10 K rpm internal disk drives; and a Sun StorEdge 3510 Fibre Channel Array.

The equipment significantly enhances the computing environment of the Department of Computer Science. The newly acquired computing power, in addition to support teaching computer science curriculum at UCA, also can be applied to solve various computation intensive application by UCA faculty and students.
