COB maintains prestigious AACSB accreditation

cobThe College of Business at the University of Central Arkansas has maintained its business accreditation by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International.

“Our approach to maintaining accreditation has been to engage in practices that lead to continuous improvement in all aspects of our work. Our faculty are dedicated to conducting meaningful research, engaging in service to the academic and business community and continuously updating curriculum so that our programs are relevant and aligned with regional needs,” said Michael Hargis, dean of the UCA College of Business. “The visit team identified particular strengths with our internship programs and our active and involved College Advisory Board.”

Founded in 1916, AACSB International is the longest-serving global accrediting body for business schools that offer undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degrees in business and accounting.

AACSB Accreditation is the hallmark of excellence in business education and has been earned by less than 5 percent of the more than 16,000 schools worldwide granting business degrees. The UCA College of Business was initially accredited in 1984.

“It takes a great deal of commitment and determination to earn and maintain AACSB Accreditation,” said Robert D. Reid, executive vice president and chief accreditation officer of AACSB International. “Business schools must not only meet specific standards of excellence, but their deans, faculty, and professional staff must make a commitment to ongoing continuous improvement to ensure that the institution will continue to deliver the highest quality of education to students.”

Established in 1969 as UCA’s second academic college, the College of Business has more than 1,500 students taught by about 70 faculty from the Departments of Accounting; Economics, Finance, and Insurance & Risk Management; Marketing and Management; and Management Information Systems.

“This reaffirmation of AACSB is a testament to the work of the College of Business and that of its administration under the leadership of Dean Michael Hargis,” said Steven Runge, executive vice president and provost. “The high quality of instruction, the dedication to advancing their disciplines through research and scholarship and their commitment to service both on the UCA campus and in the community are on display every day.”
