What: Interprofessional Forum for the students in the College of Health and Behavioral Sciences (CHBS)
When: 9:30 a.m. to noon Tuesday, October 27, 2015
Where: UCA Student Center Ballroom
Details: Teamwork and collaboration amongst health professionals is essential to care for patients in today’s complex health care environment. To better prepare students for patient centered interprofessional practice the CHBS Interprofessional Committee is hosting the 6th Annual Interprofessional (IPE) Forum.
The IPE Forum will consist of over 400 undergraduate and graduate students from eight disciplines within the College of Health and Behavioral Sciences and the UAMS Pharmacy department attending a half-day professional session designed to increase their readiness for interprofessional practice. Students from dietetics, health education, nursing, kinesiology, occupational therapy, psychology, pharmacy, physical therapy, and speech language pathology (CSD) will discuss their discipline-specific roles, establish team-based goals, and suggest interprofessional interventions for two complex patient case scenarios.
Through research, participating faculty within the College of Health and Behavioral Sciences have found the IPE forum to be effective at increasing students’ readiness for interprofessional practice. Results related to the efficacy of past IPE forums have been disseminated through eight national presentations and two refereed publications. Additionally these results are consistent with the Interprofessional Education Commission’s Collaborative Expert Panel’s (IPEC) guidelines for interprofessional practice.
