Central Arkansas Children?s Choir to hold auditions

Auditions for the Central Arkansas Children’s Choir will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday, June 7, at the University of Central Arkansas? Snow Fine Arts Center, Room 107.

The intent of the choir is to promote musical literacy and performance by providing a challenging, high-quality choral experience for its members.

The choir is open to boys and girls in grades 3-12, and is made up of two choirs. Choristers, led by Sam Huskey, is a training choir for 3rd and 4th-graders; Concert Choir, directed by Judy Rogers, is made up of 5th through 12th-graders (boys, through 8th grade or voice change).

No previous experience is necessary and a prepared song is not required. Students will need to match some pitches, demonstrate how high and low they can sing and sing a familiar tune, such as “Happy Birthday.”

The choirs will begin rehearsals for the 2004-05 school year with a kick-off rehearsal Saturday, Aug. 21. Regular rehearsals begin Aug. 23 and follow the UCA spring and fall schedule. Students who cannot audition on June 7 may schedule an audition for July 5 and Aug. 2.

Both choirs rehearse each Monday from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. To schedule an audition time or for additional information, call the Community School of Music office at (501) 450-5755 or
