Caixa TrioCONWAY — The University of Central Arkansas percussion program will play host to the Caixa Trio Nov. 24-25.

The Caixa Trio, founded in 2000 by Julie Hill, Julie Davila and Amy Smith, is a professional percussion ensemble based in Tennessee. It is an internationally renowned group that has traveled across the world, performing in places such as Brazil, Mexico, Taiwan, France, Korea and Puerto Rico.

The trio will give a free public performance in the Snow Fine Arts Center on Nov. 24 at 7:30 p.m. and will hold workshops and classes Nov. 24-25.

“I’m excited to have the Caixa Trio at UCA to work with our students,” said Dr. Blake Tyson, assistant professor of percussion. “The trio is fantastic, and each member of the group is a respected educator and performer in their own right. I know their concerts and workshops will both educate and inspire everyone who attends.”

Percussion workshops on Ghanian drumming (1 p.m. Nov. 24) and Brazilian drumming (1:40 p.m. Nov. 25) in Room 120 of the Snow Fine Arts Center are open to anyone.

Besides its national and international performances, the trio also presents master classes at colleges and public schools throughout the nation.
