The Montana Repertory Theatre’s production of William Inge’s Tony-nominated play Bus Stop will continue the University of Central Arkansas’s Broadway Series with a 7:30 p.m. performance on Monday, March 14 in the Donald W. Reynolds Performance Hall.
Bus Stop tells the comedic story of eight characters who find themselves in a weather-enforced layover in a Kansas street corner diner. During the course of the night, extraordinary qualities are revealed in seemingly ordinary people.
Inge wrote the play in 1955, and it was adapted for film in 1956, starring Marilyn Monroe.
The New York Times wrote of the show, “Mr. Inge has put together an uproarious comedy that never strays from the truth.”
The play examines the many faces of love and the interconnectedness of humans in their everyday lives. It explores how people affect each other in subtle and profound ways every day.
“I think it’s really good to see Inges’ play the way he wrote it, compared to how it was made into a movie,” said Jerry Biebesheimer, director of UCA Public Appearances. “I’m also really excited we’re going to have the Montana Repertory Theatre here. They’re one of the nation’s first-rate theaters that tour. They are on a par with the Arkansas Repertory Theatre, which means people in Central Arkansas are going to have the opportunity to see two of the nation’s top rep theatres right in the same place.”
Tickets, available at the UCA Ticket Central Box Office, are $30-$40 for adults, $27-$37 for senior citizens, $25-35 for UCA alumni, $28-$33 for UCA faculty and staff, and $10 for all students.
