The longest-running American musical on Broadway, Chicago, is headed to Reynolds Performance Hall.
Two performances are set for Oct. 27 at 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 28 at 2 p.m.
With a legendary book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb, Chicago is the winner of two Olivier awards, a Grammy and six 1997 Tony awards including Best Musical Revival.
“We are thrilled to bring this classic Broadway mega-hit to central Arkansas. This show offers stunning choreography, award-winning music and a dramatic plot that will have the audience mesmerized,” said Amanda Horton, director of Reynolds Performance Hall.
Chicago has everything that makes Broadway great. It’s a universal tale of fame, fortune and all that jazz; one show-stopping song after another; and astonishing dancing. It’s no surprise that Chicago has wowed audiences from Mexico City and Moscow to Sao Paulo and South Africa.
Set amidst the razzle-dazzle days of the 1920s, Chicago is the story of Roxie Hart, a housewife and nightclub dancer who maliciously murders her on-the-side lover after he threatens to walk out on her. Desperate to avoid conviction, she dupes the public, the media and her rival cellmate, Velma Kelly, by hiring Chicago’s slickest criminal lawyer to transform her malicious crime into a barrage of sensational headlines, the likes of which might just as easily be ripped from today’s tabloids.
