CONWAY — “April in Paris”, a UCA Jazz Ensembles big band gala dance, is scheduled for Saturday, April 2, to benefit the University of Central Arkansas Jazz Program.

The UCA Jazz Ensembles have had a tradition of hosting ballroom dances for decades,” said Dr. Jackie Lamar, professor of saxophone and director of UCA’s Dixieland Band. “It is a wonderful experience for our students to perform in a professional environment as well as to learn all of the traditional arrangements of the Big Band Era.

“Dancers of all ages and abilities love to dance and listen as our Jazz Ensembles play the hits of the Big Band Era. The music of Glenn Miller, Count Basie and Duke Ellington continue to please our audience as they dance the waltz, foxtrot, cha cha and tango.”

The UCA Jazz Ensembles will be directed by Larry Jones and Gail Robertson.

“It is also a great opportunity for ballroom dance fans to dance to a live band,” Lamar said. “Proceeds from the dance benefit the jazz program, supplying needed equipment and music for the ensembles.”

Cost is $20 per person ($15 per students) for the 8-11 p.m. dance at Conway Country Club, 555 N. Country Club Road. Dress is semi-formal.

Refreshments will be provided, and there will be a cash bar.

Advance tickets are available in the UCA Music Office, Snow Fine Arts Center room 103, and at uca.edu/music. Checks should be payable to UCA Friends of Music — Jazz.
