BAUM GALLERY TO OPEN FIRST FALL EXHIBITION
Three female installation artists, outdoor lantern sculptures come to UCA
CONWAY, Ark. – The Baum Gallery at the University of Central Arkansas will host its first fall 2016 exhibition on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016 with an opening reception from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Baum Gallery.
This exhibition, titled “Curious Devotion,” will remain on view from Thursday, Sept. 8 until Thursday, Oct. 20, 2016. It is curated by Sandra Luckett, assistant professor of art and will feature three female artists who each bring a unique approach to the concept of installation art.
“I chose this title because I see each of these women artists as obsessive with details, pushing the concept of material possibilities and creating an environment that is a shrine to their craft,” Luckett said.
Danielle Riede, Wingspan (Canopy), 2016
Danielle Riede, one of the artists in “Curious Devotion,” is a painter and installation artist from Indianapolis, Indiana. Riede brings her painterly sensibilities to her dimensional work and builds a strong relationship between the two in her delicate installations. Dawn Holder, Monoculture (detail), 2013, ceramics
Dawn Holder is a ceramicist from Arkansas. Her work references landscape with her assemblages of multiple fine porcelain pieces that address the issues of the urban/suburban manipulation of the environment. Holder will give an artist lecture at 1:40 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 22 in the McCastlain Art Lecture Hall. Examples of her work can be found online at www.dawnholder.com
Langdon Graves, Jamais Vu, 2016
Langdon Graves is a multi-media installation artist from New York. Her work features exquisite drawings of everyday objects that become multiples in her original wallpaper designs. Her work incorporates drawing, silk-screening, manipulation of everyday objects and construction of handmade, dimensional objects. Graves will hold an artist lecture at 1:40 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20 in the McCastlain Art Lecture Hall. Examples of her work can be found online at www.cargocollective.com/langdongraves
The Baum Gallery is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Entry to the exhibitions and the gallery is free and open to the public.
The Baum Gallery will also host artist David Graeve in conjunction with the 10th annual Conway ArtsFest. Graeve will install “Pluralism, Social Lens #33, Direct Action: Outdoor Public Art Installation by David Graeve,” a large-scale lantern sculpture on the UCA campus and around downtown Conway.
On Sept. 22, there will be a Q&A with UCA students at 5:30 p.m. at the McCastlain Hall Fireplace Room. This is followed by a special unveiling of Graeve’s installation at the Torreyson Library at 6:30 p.m. Graeve’s outdoor installations will be open to the public from Sept. 23 to Oct. 7, 2016. This unique, community-oriented project will feature photographs from other cities along with photographs of Conway’s residents and community.
Support for Graeve’s installation is provided in part by the Arkansas Arts Council, an agency of the Department of Arkansas Heritage and the National Endowment for the Arts.
Also in September, Downtown Conway will feature “Roots,” a video projection by Adam Hogan. This will be on view Sept. 23 and 24, 2016.

The Baum Gallery of Fine Art is an educational art museum on the campus of the University of Central Arkansas.
