CONWAY — The Baum Gallery of Fine Art at the University of Central Arkansas will host the 2012 student competitive exhibition March 7-28.

Both the exhibition and a reception on Friday, March 9, from 5-7 p.m., are free and open to the public.

The competitive is open to all UCA students. All works must be submitted by March 1 at 4 p.m. and will be judged by juror Greg Thompson, owner of Greg Thompson Fine Art in Little Rock, the following day.

In addition to having their works displayed in the Baum Gallery and competing for cash prizes totaling $1,000, the students are able to sell their works to patrons of the gallery.

Barclay McConnell, director of the Baum Gallery, said that students’ opportunity to have their work judged by a juror with an outside perspective is a positive aspect of the competitive.

“This is a really good opportunity for students to get feedback on their work from someone besides their professors,” she said. “It also gives an opportunity for those who get awards to put those [awards] on their resumes.”

The Baum Gallery’s hours of operation are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
