CONWAY — Students graduating this semester from the University of Central Arkansas with a Bachelor of Arts with emphases in Fine Arts or Art Education or a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art will exhibit their work in the Baum Gallery beginning April 9.

The show will be on view April 9-24. Receptions are scheduled for Thursday, April 9, from 4-6 p.m. and Sunday, April 19 from 2-4 p.m.

The exhibition and receptions are free and open to the public.

The senior juried exhibition occurs each semester. Participation is required for students graduating with these majors. Students in the B.A. majors work with faculty for the selection and approval of exhibited works. Students in the BFA major submit proposals to faculty a year prior to the exhibition and create a body of work throughout two semesters. BFA majors then meet with studio art faculty throughout that year for group critiques of their proposed work.

“This semester there are 10 BA students and five BFA students who are exhibiting work,” said Dr. Jeff Young, chair of the UCA Department of Art. “The work ranges from representational to abstract and deals with content that explores personal experiences such as memories and fears, as well as spirituality and our relation to architecture.”

Participating BA seniors this semester are Randi Brown, Ryan Landry, Hunter McElyea, Allison Mosley, James Scott, Angela Simms, Shade Tucker, Grace Waldner, Paul Willey and Alyssa Woods. The five BFA seniors in the exhibition are Allison Armstrong, Tim Daulong, Kat Robertson, Katherine Toler and Monica Vargas.

After the students’ works are installed in the gallery, art faculty members will select several students for Exhibition Honors. Two to four students are typically selected.
