CONWAY — Guest artist Andrew Bourgoin will conduct a master class workshop on Auditioning for the Musical Theatre at the University of Central Arkansas’s Reynolds Performance Hall on Thursday, April 2.

The workshop will begin at 1:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

Selected students will have the opportunity to work with Bourgoin, a Twin Cities-based musical director, on audition pieces they have prepared. Bourgoin will also talk about the professional musical theatre world and take questions from the audience.

Bourgoin, a pianist and coach, has previously worked with Park Square Theatre for The Color Purple, Ordway Center for the Performing Arts for A Christmas Story and Theater Latté Da Master Class and Cabaret.

UCA Theatre will be working with Bourgoin in the production of the musical comedy Lucky Stiff on April 9-10 and 16-17 at 7:30 p.m. and April 11 at 2:30 p.m. The shows will be in the Bridges/Larson Theatre in UCA’s Snow Fine Arts Center.

“Andrew has the unique combination of talent that we look for in a music director — the outstanding musicianship skills and the ability to work with young actor-singers,” said Ruthann Curry Browne, adjunct professor of theatre.

Bourgoin was music director for Northern Michigan University production of Legally Blonde: The Musical and Avenue Q and St. Olaf Lyric Theater Season. He was associate conductor for the College Light Opera Company in 18 productions and casting adviser for Creative Development International.

“He is an excellent pianist and vocalist and we are pleased to have him,” Browne said.
