Artist Sharon Louden, an author and educator with vast experience in the contemporary art world, will be the juror for the University of Central Arkansas’s Annual Student Art Competitive next month.
The exhibit will be on view March 5-16 at the Baum Gallery. A reception is set for 4 p.m. March 8.
Any UCA student may submit up to three works for possible inclusion. This show allows students to view their work through the lens of an independent juror, someone without prior knowledge of their work, and to participate in a curated gallery exhibition.
“We encourage all art students at the university to participate in the competitive,” Brian Young, director of the Baum Gallery, said. “It gives them an opportunity to participate, meaningfully, in a significant arts event at UCA.”
Multiple awards will be given.
Louden has a BFA from the Art Institute of Chicago and an MFA from Yale University. Her work has been exhibited in venues all over the United States, including the Arkansas Arts Center in Little Rock; the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.; and the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art in Kansas City.
Louden said she was looking forward to giving students feedback on their work.
“I’m very grateful and excited to see all the great work being submitted for this exhibition,” she said.
Baum Gallery exhibits are free and open to the public. Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday as well as 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Thursday.
