ARTIST JULIE EVANS TO LECTURE FEB. 26 AT BAUM GALLERY

CONWAY — New York painter Julie Evans will lecture on her recent work at the University of Central Arkansas’s Baum Gallery of Fine Art on Tuesday, Feb. 26.
The 5:30 p.m. event in McCastlain Hall room 143 is free and open to the public.
Evans will discuss her recent series of paintings titled “Swishbone,” currently on exhibit in the Baum. She will also continue working with UCA painting students, continuing a workshop begun during her previous visit to campus in January.
Dr. Jeff Young, chair of UCA’s Department of Art, said he believed that Evans’ visit and lecture would be beneficial to both the students of his department and the UCA community as a whole.
“Bringing an established artist like Evans to campus is beneficial for our students and the entire UCA community,” Young said. “It offers viewers a chance to meet with the artist in person and listen to what she has to share. Our ability to bring in artists from all around the country is a great opportunity that everyone, including members of the local community, can take advantage of.”
Evans is most known for her work with mylar, a unique type of polyester film, and her abstract technique that is characteristic of her work. Evans’ work has recently been featured at various galleries in New York City, South Carolina and New Zealand. Art journals and publications such as The New Yorker and Art in America have featured her work.
Young encouraged guests to not only attend the public lecture but also to visit the Baum Gallery to view Evans’ exhibition, which closes just a few days before the artist’s talk.
“Beyond just going to her talk, I would encourage people to go to the gallery and see the work in person,” Young said. “Being able to exhibit work of this caliber is important to UCA and to the entire community.”
