ARKANSAS WRITERS MFAs HOST READING ON DECEMBER 12

UCA Department of Writing

CONWAY — In their first group appearance, the first-year students of the Arkansas Writers MFA Workshop of University of Central Arkansas will read from their work at 7 p.m., Thurs., Dec 12 at The Locals, 1024 Van Ronkle, Conway’s newest venue for coffee, performance, and good company.

The class of students is the second of the newly established program, and is comprised of Audrey Carroll (Flushing, NY), Becca Hawkins (Traverse City, MI), Benjamin Sneyd (Nowhere, OK), Douglas Luman (Peoria, IL), and TJ Heffers (Wilkes-Barre, PA). The diverse group has been honing their skills in fiction, nonfiction, and poetry alongside editorial and pedagogical studies under the direction of UCA’s Department of Writing. They also serve as the editorial staff of the award-winning Toad Suck Review.

Douglas Luman, the group’s poet and resident scholar of the sunrise and graph-paper-writing says, “The members of the class come from diverse places coupled with such unique styles and tastes that all of the writers bring perspectives as varied as their roots. Containing poets and writers of fiction and non-fiction, this reading will truly feature something for everyone.”

This event is free and open to the public. For more information about the poets and writers visit the Arkansas Writers Workshop blog at arkansaswriters.wordpress.com. For more information about the space visit The Locals’ website, thelocals.be. Contact Stephanie Vanderslice, stephv@uca.edu, with any questions regarding the reading.
