Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre sets fall membership party

CONWAY — The Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre will host a Fall Membership Party on Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. at the home of Jeff and Mary Ruth Marotte, 369 Pippinpost Drive in Conway.

The party’s theme is “Set Sail with Shakespeare.” Rebekah Scallet, producing artistic director of AST, said the theme was a hint of the lineup for the 2012 Festival.

“In the productions I have chosen for next summer, the characters are all involved in journeys that lead them to discover new facets of themselves and the world,” Scallet said. “At the membership party, AST will be taking the first step on our 2012 journey as I announce the titles that will be performed.

“We want to build excitement for our 2012 season and encourage people to get involved with Shakespeare through our membership program.”

Membership is available to anyone who makes a donation to the theatre.

Perks such as invitations to “members-only” parties and events during the year and during the summer season, access to special discounts, and having members’ names printed in the summer program book, go along with membership.

The event will include food, drink and music. Appetizers and desserts will correspond with the nautical theme. A live band specializing in covers of The Strokes will play. Door prizes will include tickets to an Arkansas Travelers game, UCA Theatre productions, the 2012 Festival and T-shirts.

Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre is the state’s only professional Shakespeare company, housed on the campus of the University of Central Arkansas. Each summer, AST offers full productions of a range of Shakespeare’s works, as well as other plays and musicals that help fulfill AST’s mission to entertain, engage, and enrich the community.

AST’s lively, thoughtful and vibrant performances strive to capture the imaginations of audiences of all ages.  AST is an Equity company and employs professional actors, directors, designers and craftsmen, as well as UCA students, faculty and members of the Arkansas community.
