ARKANSAS COLLEGE ART HISTORY SYMPOSIUM
TO FEATURE LITTLE ROCK CURATOR

CONWAY — The 24th annual Arkansas College Art History Symposium will include research done by various art students and keynote speaker Dr. Ann Prentice Wagner March 13-14 on the University of Central Arkansas campus.
Wagner is a drawings curator at the Arkansas Arts Center in Little Rock. She has previously worked for the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the National Portrait Gallery, George Mason University, Towson State University and the University of Maryland, College Park. Wagner spent a great deal of her life curating exhibitions and doing research on art history.
For her visit to UCA, she plans to give a lecture on the Public Works of Art Project and discuss pieces from the Great Depression that saved numerous starving artists at that time.
Wagner will give her lecture, titled “The Birth of New Deal Art: The Public Works Art Project” on Thursday, March 13 at 7:30 p.m. in McCastlain Hall, room 143.
“We hope the public will join us for this fascinating look at the art of the New Deal,” said Dr. Gayle Seymour, associate dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communication and professor of art.
The Arkansas College Art History Symposium has a rich history itself of providing undergraduate students across the state with feedback on research from prestigious art historians.
Twelve students representing the University of Arkansas, University of Arkansas at Little Rock and UCA will speak on Friday, March 14, about a range of topics in art history. Seymour said those would include anything from Greek vase painting to Renaissance architectural theory to contemporary installation by Jamaican-American artist Nari Ward.
Student paper presentations will begin at 9 a.m. in McCastlain Hall 143 and will be followed by another lecture by Wagner at 3:30 p.m.
The Arkansas College Art History Symposium is sponsored by UCA with assistance from UALR and funded by UCA arts fees. It is free and open to the public.
