Soprano Kristin Lewis, a UCA alumnus and two time Metropolitan Opera National Council Finalist, will be featured in a recital as part of the Stella Boyle Smith Recital Series on Wednesday, March 10, at 7:30 p.m. in the Snow Fine Arts Recital Hall.
Admission is free and the recital is open to the public. Lewis will be accompanied by pianist Stratsimir Pavlov and will be assisted in duets from Porgy and Bess by UCA faculty member, baritone Robert Holden. The recital will also feature works by Beethoven and Richard Strauss and a cantata of spirituals arranged by John Carter.
Lewis has performed in Europe, South America, and the United States. She made her operatic debut with Opera Birmingham as the First Lady in Mozart?s opera, The Magic Flute. Other roles have included the Countess in The Marriage of Figaro, Frasquita in Carmen, Laetitia in The Old Maid and the Thief, and Mimi in La boh?me. She has also toured Europe with the New York Harlem Opera Company. Other honors include a guest artist appearance on the Marilyn Horne Farewell Concert Tour, the Mozart and Puccini Awards in the Orpheus National Music Competition, and Regional Finalist in the MacAllister Competition. She participated as a member of the Knoxville Opera Studio in 1999-2001.
Lewis currently lives in Vienna, Austria, and is a native of Little Rock, Arkansas. She is auditioning in May for the Karajan young artist program with the Vienna Staatsoper and is currently coaching roles with the principal coach of the same organization. She is a graduate of the University of Central Arkansas Department of Music. Lewis received a Master?s degree from the University of Tennessee School of Music in 2001.
