Thirteen students recently attended the 2015 Beta Alpha Psi Southwest Regional Conference in Dallas, Texas. The regional conference includes a Best Practices competition in three areas. The students won first place in the Best Practices in Effective Operations and third place in the Best Practices in Financial Literacy categories.
Junior accounting majors Jered Bryan (Maumelle native), Alex Hoyle (Mulberry native), and Jessica Lasater (Ozark native) won first place in the Best Practices Competition for Effective Chapter Operations. They presented the chapter’s Checklist for Success, which contains a variety of professional development activities that students are encouraged to complete prior to graduation.
As a result of the first place win, students will compete in the national competition at the Beta Alpha Psi Annual Meeting in Milwaukee, Wis. in August.
Junior accounting majors Abby Perdue (Hot Springs native), Parker Somerfield (Hot Springs native), Rachel Street (Hot Springs native), and senior accounting major Tyler Stage (Benton native) won third place in the Best Practices Competition for Financial Literacy. They presented @UCAMoneyWhiz, the chapter’s efforts to improve financial literacy of college students using Twitter.
Other students who attended the regional meeting were senior accounting major Melissa McDowell (Little Rock native), and junior accounting majors Brittany Ammons (Hope native), Zhu Nim (Malaysia native), Camdon Myers (Bella Vista), Tyler Rogers (Booneville native), and Kevin Wan (Conway native).
Beta Alpha Psi is an organization for financial information students and professionals with 300 chapters on college and university campuses. The Theta Lambda chapter is identified as a superior chapter by the organization for its commitment to professional and service hours.
The UCA chapter has scored six first-place wins, three second-place wins and one third-place win at the regional level since the chapter began competing in the Best Practices category in 2007.
“We are extraordinarily proud of our students and their performance in this competition. Their success reflects the dedication and work ethic of each student, as well as the excellent faculty in the accounting department and College of Business at UCA,” said College of Business Dean Michael Hargis.
