Accounting students win third place in annual competition

The Theta Lambda chapter of Beta Alpha Psi at the University of Central Arkansas earned a third place award at the organization’s annual meeting in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Jered Bryan of Maumelle, Alex Hoyle of Alma and Jessica Lasater of Ozark competed on a national level in the Effective Operations category of Best Practices using their project, “Checklist for Success: A Bridge to Professional Development.” The UCA students competed against seven other teams after having won the 2015 Southwest Regional earlier this year in March.

Other students attending the annual Beta Alpha Psi conference were Jessica Archer of Little Rock, Abby Perdue of El Dorado, Rachel Street of Hot Springs and Kevin Wan of Conway.

During the conference, students attended sessions during the conference on professional development, ethical behavior, leadership skills, service, and professional networking. Keynote address speakers included Kimberly Ellison-Taylor, executive director of Oracle USA, and Brian Sommer, president of Vital Analysis.

Beta Alpha Psi is an organization for financial information students and professionals with 300 chapters on college and university campuses. The Theta Lambda chapter is identified as a superior chapter by the organization for its commitment to professional and service hours.

After scoring six first-place wins at the regional competitions since 2007, the UCA chapter has gone on to compete at the national level earning four third-place wins and one first-place win.
