On Thursday, November 13 (National Humanities Month), the 2014 Humanities Fair will be held at the Brewer-Hegeman Conference Center at UCA with registration at 9:45 a.m. and programs from 10:00 am to 2 pm. The Humanities Fair is supported in part by a grant from the Arkansas Humanities Council and the National Endowment for the Humanities. It is open to high school students and their teachers to enable students to experience a typical day attending university humanities courses. Students will have their choice of attending sessions conducted by UCA professors in philosophy, religious studies, history, English, anthropology, African and African American Studies, geography, political science, Latino and Latin American Studies, Asian Studies, and gender studies. UCA faculty will make presentations exploring the chosen theme of “Humanities and the Environment.”
Although it is not required, students are encouraged to submit original humanities projects to the Fair’s competition. Awards will be presented to highlight excellence and creativity in the areas of Poetry, Short Story, Essay, or Multimedia Presentation. Student projects based on the theme are welcome, as are projects on other topics. ADDITIONAL EVENTS INFORMATION: In connection with the UCA Humanities Fair, UCA Humanities and World Cultures Institute will present a free and open to the public screening of “The Promised Land,” starring Matt Damon on Thursday, November 13 at 7 p.m. The film will be shown at Riverdale 10 at 2600 Cantrell Road in Little Rock. The film will be introduced and a follow up discussion will be led by Dr. Nicholas S. Brasovan. This program is sponsored in part by a grant from the Arkansas Humanities Council and the National Endowment for Humanities.
