The Use of Historical Images to Evaluate Archaeological Landscapes (July 14)
In this Arkansas Archeological Society talk, the use of historical images from three archaeological sites in Arkansas and their application toward understanding landscape use, feature distribution, and change over time is considered. In this context, historical images refer to terrestrial and aerial photographs taken by both individuals (archaeologists, avocationalists, and recreationalists) and agencies in the early and mid-20th century. When digitized and evaluated within a geospatial organization these images provide a visual reconstruction of former lived landscapes and the transition to archaeological landscapes.
