Dr. Seungyeon Lee and her collaborators have contributed a cutting-edge book chapter on emerging adulthood, featured in an upcoming edited volume set to release in January 2025! This book serves as a comprehensive resource for scholars exploring diverse research methods to study emerging adults—individuals typically between the ages of 18 and 29. Studying this unique developmental period presents challenges such as representative sampling and ensuring participatory inclusion. This book provides step-by-step guidance on both quantitative and qualitative methods, covering everything from research design and data collection to analysis and interpretation. Each chapter is structured as a practical tutorial, complete with clear explanations, real-world examples, and an annotated bibliography of essential resources. With its in-depth coverage of cross-sectional, longitudinal, dyadic, intensive longitudinal, qualitative, and mixed-method approaches, this book is an invaluable tool for both emerging and experienced scholars. If you’re looking to expand your research toolkit and gain deeper insights into the complexities of emerging adulthood, this is a must-read!
Grahe, J. E., Lee, S., Obeid, R., McFall, J., & Fagan, J. (2025). Chapter 9 Studying emerging adulthood with a crowd, pp. 157-181, in Flourishing as a scholar: Research methods for the study of emerging adulthood (eds. Sorgente, Claxton, Schwab, and Vosylis), Oxford University Press.
