The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Academic Leadership will once again offer the Service-Learning Institute and the Global Learning Institute in Summer 2024. Faculty may choose to attend one or both institutes, which will be offered during May Intersession.
The Service-Learning Institute (May 13th-17th and 22nd-24th) provides faculty with an in-depth professional development opportunity to learn how to successfully integrate service into their curricula and ultimately serve as advocates for service-learning at UCA. This institute is designed to benefit faculty who wish to explore service-learning as a pedagogical tool in an intensive, in-depth manner, with the intent of implementing it into a specific academic course. Participants will leave the two-week institute prepared to teach a new or redesigned service-learning course in the 2024-2025 academic year and receive a $500 stipend for participation.
The Global Learning Institute (May 20th-21st) provides an introduction to Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL). GLI participants will learn about the COIL pedagogy and strategies for designing collaborative projects aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (#GlobalGoals). Participants also will hear from international partners and explore intended and unintended learning outcomes, assessment practices, and research opportunities. Participants will leave the institute prepared to work with an international partner to implement a COIL project during the 2024-2025 academic year and receive a $100 stipend for participation.
Faculty can apply to the Service-Learning Institute or both learning institutes through the CETAL website. Applications will be accepted through 11:59pm on March 29th, 2024.
