Transform Video Watching into Interactive and Engaging Experiences

Many faculty members utilize videos within their courses. However, videos can be a rather passive watching experience. Join our upcoming workshop to discover how Annoto can transform students’ video-watching into interactive and engaging experiences, helping you achieve all your teaching goals!

In this session, you’ll learn how to:

  • Enhance Learning: Incorporate in-video quizzes for real-time knowledge checks.
  • Skills Assessment: Conduct video critiques for comprehensive skills evaluation and peer reviews.
  • Deepen Understanding: Facilitate time-based discussions to promote deeper learning.
  • Extended Self-Learning: Create interactive content that encourages ongoing student engagement and reflection.
  • Gain Insights: Obtain actionable data on student interaction and video content performance.

We will show you how to effortlessly add these powerful features to your videos, making your interactive course content dynamic and integral to your curriculum. Feel free to prepare a video in advance! During the session, you’ll practice transforming it into an interactive activity with Annoto, leaving with a fully prepared activity.

UCA Employees Volunteer Opportunity: Move -In Day!

Sunday August 18th is UCA Move-In Day and we will have numerous students and their families
on campus.
Employee Engagement and Enrichment and Institutional Advancement are teaming up with
the UCA Parent Advisory Board to provide information, bottled water, and encouragement! A tent will be set up
in front of the student center and volunteers can serve a 2 hour shift, anytime between 8:00 a.m. and
5:00 p.m.
It’s a great opportunity to provide directions, answer questions, encourage family members and utilize your expertise!

A link is provided to register for your preferred shift. All you need is a purple UCA shirt and a smile on your face.

Griffin Planetarium Shows

Griffin Planetarium shows this Friday August 9 at 3:00pm and 7:00pm: The one-hour shows this week includes a tour of the current sky, and the full-dome movie “Stars of the Pharaohs”. The planetarium is located in the Conway Corporation Center for the Sciences. Seating starts 10 minutes before show time. Admission is free. Seating limited to the first 94. No admission after the shows begin. No food or drink allowed.

Dr. Rahul Mehta presents two talks at CAARI-SNEAP 2024

Dr. Rahul Mehta from the Department of Physics, Astronomy, and Engineering presented two papers at the recent 27th International
Conference on Application of Accelerators in Research and Industry & 55th Symposium
of NorthEastern Accelerator Personnel (CAARI-SNEAP 2024).

The first was an invited talk entitled, “An Undergraduate Advanced Laboratory Teaching: Measurement and analysis
of Ions and Photons”.
Between 1994 and 2020, Dr. Mehta has taken more than 100 undergraduate students to Accelerator lab to perform experiments in Atomic and Nuclear Physics. This educational opportunity provided to UCA students was supported from funds provided by UCA Department of Physics, Astronomy, and Engineering and UCA College of Science and Engineering. This program of teaching with accelerators (in
IBMAL lab at University of North Texas) was supported by a Grant from National Science Foundation.

The second was a submitted talk with Dr. Brent Hill (Biology) as a co-author, “Differential analysis of Normal Rat Leg Bones subjected to Space Conditions”
Between 2004-2024, this research was conducted by more than 25 (Undergraduate and Graduate) Students. The research has been supported by grants from Arkansas Space Grant Consortium (ASGC) and INBRE Funds were also provided by Department of Physics, Astronomy, and Engineering, Department of Biology, and the College of Science and Engineering.

 

COB Students, Professors Present Research at Conference

Fourteen UCA College of Business students and eight faculty members from the College of Business had their research presented at the 53rd Meeting of the Southwest Decision Sciences Institute (SWDSI) in Galveston, Texas (April 10-13, 2024).

Professors Mark McMurtrey, Joe Thomas, Mike Ellis, and Carla Barber represented the Computer Information Systems & Analytics Department. MSADA graduate students included Julian Haessner, Philipp Haessner, Luciana Subirana, and William Pontious,

MBA graduate students included Micah Secor, Cynthia Sandefur, Dustin Rigsby, Chris Fisher, Imran Ali, Jose Alonso Rodriguez, Adam Daniel, Madalyn Bass, and Jason Brown (two presentations).

In addition, Professors Alexander Chen, Tracy Suter, and David McCalman from the Department of Marketing and Management had their research presented along with undergraduate student Iffah Ather. Dr. Mike Casey, Interim Dean of the COB, also had a paper presented that was coauthored by Dr. McMurtrey and MBA student Jason Brown.
