The Office of Education Abroad is thrilled to announce that Cooper Horton, a senior majoring in Linguistics with minors in International Studies and Honors Interdisciplinary Studies, has been awarded the highly competitive Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) by the U.S. Department of State.
The CLS Program is an intensive overseas language and cultural immersion program for American students designed to promote the study of critical languages, with the aim of fostering mutual understanding between the United States and other nations.
Horton previously studied Russian in Kazakhstan during a semester exchange program in Spring 2023, and this scholarship will enable him to continue his Russian language studies this summer. This highly competitive and esteemed honor recognizes his dedication to language learning and cross-cultural understanding. As an advocate for global understanding and communication, Cooper Horton exemplifies the values and goals of the CLS program. We congratulate him on this well-deserved achievement and look forward to witnessing the positive impact he will undoubtedly make in the realm of international relations and cultural exchange.
