The National Alliance for Insurance Education & Research announced a new designation program, called University Associate Certified Insurance Counselor (UACIC) in April 2010 at the Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS) conference in Boston, MA.

The University Associate Certified Insurance Counselor (UACIC) designation is for students enrolled in insurance and risk management undergraduate degree programs. This opportunity provides students with a designation before they graduate and gives them a significant head start on earning the prestigious Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation.

The five-part CIC Program is recognized as the most practical education in the insurance industry, and demonstrates real-world knowledge in the following areas: Personal Lines, Commercial Casualty, Commercial Property, Life & Health and Agency Management. The UACIC designation requires students to complete two parts of the CIC program while in school. Students earning the UACIC designation will then have five years to complete the requirements for the CIC designation.

UCA held the first conferment ceremony in the nation and conferred the UACIC designation on seven students in March 2011.
