Technical and professional communication and cultural usability; cultures of industry and labor; sophistic rhetoric; composition.

Dr. Mattson’s teaching and research pursuits converge where technical and professional communication, intercultural rhetoric, and usability studies meet. He celebrates all his students’ successes—whether in the Writing Major and related minors of Professional Writing at UCA or in First-Year Writing.

kyle mattson connexions picture for his web pageAs coeditor of connexions international professional communication journal, Dr. Mattson plays a lead role in the publication cycle of peer-reviewed articles, working also with section editors on the completion and transcription of video interviews of leaders in industry and academia.


kyle mattson vistac web pictureAs co-investigator on VISTAC – Science & Technology Visuals in Action Project, Dr. Mattson works on a suite of projects under the banner of the internationally collaborative VISTAC – Research Cluster, administered out of the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology.

Ongoing Study: Seeking practicing engineers

The VISTAC – Science & Technology Visuals in Action Project seeks practicing engineers, in Conway or the Greater Little Rock area, to serve as participants on a workplace study involving these 3 commitments: (1) completing survey, (2) being observed on a 2-day on-site visit (with video-recording and access to company-approved engineering visuals), and (3) answering follow-up interview questions.
