Fall Public Planetarium Shows

The fall public planetarium shows at the Griffin Planetarium are Friday and Saturday nights at 8 pm (doors open at 7:30 pm) during the following weeks:
September 1 thru October 14
October 27 thru November 18
December 1 thru Dec 16

Stars of the Pharaohs is showing on Friday, 9/1, and on Saturday, 9/2.

Admission is free. Seating limited to the first 94 people.

The Science of Super Heroes

Science Wednesday kicks off the fall semester Wednesday, 8/30, 6:30 pm, at Kings Live Music in downtown Conway!

Night Under the Stars 8/21

Beginning at 5 p.m. on 8/21, the Dr. Edmond E. Griffin Planetarium will be showing condensed NASA footage of the solar eclipse from earlier that afternoon in 15-minute intervals. To conclude the evening, guests will have the opportunity to view the premiere of the planetarium’s public fall show, “The Edge of Darkness,” at 7 p.m.

Guests may also tour the Conway Corporation Center for Sciences. Appetizers and beverages will be served.

Tickets are $10 and can bepurchased by clicking here.

All proceeds will go to the Dr. Edmond E. Griffin Planetarium in order to ensure the continued quality of planetarium productions.

Griffin Planetarium Summer Public Show Schedule

May 26 – July 7 and August 4 – 18:   3 pm and 8 pm

All shows are currently free and first-come first-seated for up to 94
people per show.  Donations to the Griffin Planetarium are
encouraged (Give to Griffin link).  Doors open 30 minutes before show time.  The one-hour shows include a tour of the current sky and a full-dome movie.  Griffin Planetarium is located inside the Conway Corporation Center for Sciences building at UCA.

Science Wednesday 4/26

Earth Day @ UCA 4/21

62nd Annual State Science Fair

The University of Central Arkansas was host to the 62nd Annual Southwestern Energy Arkansas State Science and Engineering Fair.   It is held every spring at UCA, and is affiliated with the Society for Science and the Public’s International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF).  The State Science and Engineering Fair is open to students in grades 9-12 who have finished in the top 4 places in their respective categories at one of Arkansas’ regional ISEF-affiliated science fairs.  CNSM’s Biology Department’s Dr. Mark Bland is the director for this annual event.

Arkansas Academy of Sciences 4/7 – 4/8/2017

The 101st annual meeting of the Arkansas Academy of Science will be held
on April 7 – 8, 2017, hosted by the University of Central Arkansas.  Oral presentations will begin on Friday afternoon in the Conway Corporation Center for Sciences.  Friday evening will feature an informal mixer, followed by a dinner with keynote speaker Dr. Sally Entrekin, an ecologist with UCA’s Department of Biology.  Oral presentations will continue on Saturday morning, and all posters will be on display at the Poster Session in the Health, Physical Education, Recreation (HPER) Building gym from 9:30 – 11:30 am Saturday morning.
