Jennifer Deering is one of two grant writers for the University of Central Arkansas’s Sponsored Programs Office. She has made significant contributions as a co-author of applications for grant funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, MAPFund, and the Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation. She also edits highly technical proposals for the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation. Her duties include assisting PIs/PDs in developing competitive projects, acting as lead writer on institutional proposals for programs such as the U.S. Department of Education’s Strengthening Institutions Program and FEMA’s Pre-Hazard Mitigation Program, and creating checklists and timelines to aid PIs/PDs in the submission process.


She is a former member of the graduate faculty at UCA, where she taught grant writing for the Community and Economic Development Program for five years.


She has served on the Grants Resource Center’s (GRC) Advisory Board for three years as a representative of Category C schools and is a member of GRC’s Community and Economic Development Task Force.


She serves on the board of directors for that Lake Conway / Point Remove Watershed Alliance, whose mission is to educate the public about our watershed, stormwater drainage, and water conservation.


She is fascinated by Korean culture and has visited South Korea three times. In her spare time, she enjoys binge-watching horror films.
