ASHA Requirements for Supervision

The Council for Clinical Certification in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology revised the Standards and Implementation Procedures for the Certificate of Clinical Competence. The new standards went into effect on January 1, 2020. The new revisions impacted the requirements for clinical supervision. All clinical supervisors must meet the following PRIOR to supervising a student.

– Hold current ASHA certification in the appropriate area of practice.

– Have a minimum of 9 months of post-certification, full-time experience.

– Completed a minimum of 2 hours of professional development in the area of clinical instruction/supervision.

UCA SLHC supervisors can take advantage of FREE education for clinical instruction through the Council of Academic Programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders. Each year, they launch a new Clinical Educator Series which provides various learning modules.
