Degree Requirements and Checklists (revised)

Major in International Studies – 36 hours

Core Requirements (12 hours): Students must complete PSCI 2300, PSCI 2320, PSCI 2312 or PSCI 2322 and one of the following courses – ANTH 2300, Peoples and Cultures; ENGL 2305, World Literature I; ENGL 2306, World Literature II; GEOG 3300, World Regional Geography; and LING 2350, World Languages.

Foreign Language Requirement (3 hours): Students must complete one additional 2000-level or higher course (beyond the language requirement for a B.A. degree) in one foreign language.

Experiential Learning Requirement (3 hours): Students must complete at least one of the following courses – PSCI 4392, Internship in International Studies; PSCI 4393, Experiential Learning in International Studies (Travel/Study Abroad or Model United Nations); and PSCI 4394, Research in International Studies (Independent Study).

Concentration Requirements (18 hours): Students must complete six upper-level courses within one of three different concentrations, including at least two courses (six hours) from the political science course offerings.  The concentrations are: (1) International Affairs & Security; (2) International Development & Globalization; and (3) Regional & Cultural Studies.

Minor in International Studies – 21 hours

Core Requirements (9 hours): Students must complete PSCI 2300, PSCI 2320, and one of the following courses – ANTH 2300, Peoples and Cultures; ENGL 2305, World Literature I; ENGL 2306, World Literature II; GEOG 3300, World Regional Geography; and LING 2350, World Languages.
